Coke and Egg Nog

Christmas is the time where we all get to enjoy our favourite seasonal drinks, many of which tend to involve egg nog. I used to always wonder why, if everyone loves it so much, egg nog is only ever sold around the Christmas season. If they made it year-round, wouldn't they sell a considerable amount more? But then it hit me. If egg nog was readily available the whole year it wouldn't be special anymore and interest would wane, and over time annual sales would probably only be a negligible amount more than it is currently, as a seasonal item.

But I digress.

When it comes to seasonal drinks, a personal favourite of mine for years has been Coke and egg nog. Usually when I divulge that piece of information, people react like I'm some kind of freak. Well, perhaps I am, but that's a whole discussion for another day. Whether they've tried it or not, people have a preconceived notion that this is a gross combination. I can understand not wanting to try gross things. I personally am turned off of trying oysters because they look so gross when I watch people eat them. However, Coke and egg nog is simply two decidedly non-gross things that happen to be mixed together.

Here's the puzzling thing. Ask those same people if they would like a root beer float and I'm sure they'd love to have one. When you think about it, it's actually quite similar—a carbonated drink with a dairy product added. And for a while A&W even sold root beer milkshakes. It really doesn't seem like much of a stretch from that to consider mixing Coke and egg nog. I've also heard of root beer and egg nog or ginger ale and egg nog as other good combinations, although I haven't personally tried them yet.

So here's your homework. At least once this holiday season, I challenge you to try some Coke and egg nog (I usually go with a 50/50 mix). It doesn't even have to be a whole glass if you're not too brave; just try enough to form an informed opinion. If you end up not liking it, that's fine. Everyone has different tastes. But I've known more than one person who initially thought it sounded disgusting and changed their minds after actually trying it.

I accept your challenge. However, I must say upfront I've never been a big egg nog fan. Also, does it have to be classic coke or can it be some variation of the cola?

Not an egg nog fan? Inconceivable!

Yes, it has to be vintage 2007 Coca-Cola bottled in plant #42 between 1PM and 3PM on a Thursday... Just kidding, I'm sure everything will taste similar. :)

Hmmm, I think I will try it tonight with Coke Zero, I really don't like the rgular coke and the stuff we do have was bottled at 3:30pm : )

Ok, I tried it tonight with Coke Zero and I have to say it is very good, I like it, I may never go back to plain eggnog again...

Just made this with Vanilla Spice Eggnog and Vanilla Zero Coke. Pretty good.

I actually drink coca cola and eggnog all the time, however, I have never mixed them! Usually I pour a glass of coke and a glass of eggnog and alternate sipping between the two. Only one step further to mix them, I guess I will try it. I actually arrive at this blog post by searching for "eggnog and coke", trying to discover if anyone else found the combo tasty.

I just tried this with traditional egg nog and Coke Zero and it's actually really good. Just like a root beer float.

Well i just threw a coke and eggnog together, because that's what I had in my fridge...weird at first, but not bad. I just summed it up as some alcoholic-wannabe-drink-experiment-with New years :p

I just pored coke into the same glass I drank eggnog and it was really good. Made me think of a root beer float! So I googled coke and eggnog which brought me here. Glad I'm not the only one who likes it. This is my new winter favorite drink :)

Root beer and egg nog has been my familys Christmas eve tradition since I was young. Love it! Glad to know I'm not the only "crazy" person out there for mixing egg nog and soda.

I've been doing this for many years and I get the same reaction that it sounds gross when I mention it to anybody.

This sounds like a great idea! If you use Coke Zero, it's a great way to cut the calories of the egg nog - which, need I say, is insane. Thanks!

I have eggnog that needs used up and I have a coke opened up, so here goes... DDDDDDDlicious!!!

This inspired me trying Diet Dr. Pepper and Eggnog and it is pretty good. Straight eggnog is too sweet for my tastes and the Diet Dr. Pepper cut it quite well.

Thank you for the suggestion:)

What about the shmegnog? Do they sell it as actual shmegnog or do you have to get the shmeg and the nog and mix it yourself?

Haha I see I'm not the only one who googled "eggnog and coke" and came upon this blog. When I first started drinking eggnog I used to mix it with sprite or seven up to thin it out. Now I love it with a little liquid vanilla creamer. Pouring an eggnog and Coke now!

Well I just poured a rum and eggnog. I find the eggnog very rich so was wondering what I could thin it out with (other than too much more rum) . Hence how I found your post. I am a diet coke lover so thought I would give it a try. Found my new Christmas eve drink! Thanks, it's quite yummy!!

We love it at our house during the holidays! It started with RC Cola and became a tradition. I amongst the weirdos :)

I am actually drinking a half gallon of Lehigh Valley Farms, original Egg Nog, as i type this post and since the Egg Nog has given me a burping n expelling air thru my arse, i thought what better way to see how Ginger Ale n Egg Nog taste. So, here goes, i am taking the previous post suggestion to mix it 50/50 & i will tell you how it taste, brb....well, it taste pretty good.

Alot less thicker than the Egg Nog was and i am hoping the Ginger Ale will help to expell some of the built up gas bubbles in my stomach.

I've actually been a fan of eggnog and orange juice...it sounds weird but it's actually delicious as well. May run out and get some coke tonight and give this a shot.

Egg nog Cokes are brilliant. Very reminiscent of an ice cream float, or one of the fountain drinks they used to have in drug stores. (In fact, I could swear I heard someone refer to egg nog Cokes, just like they talked about vanilla Cokes and cherry Cokes, when I was a kid; I'll bet they had them back in the 40s.)

Enjoy your egg nog Cokes. Resist the cool kids; they don't know anything about anything.

I found this blog entry looking to see if Coke and eggnog was actually a thing. Reason being, I was drinking spiced rum with eggnog, and ran out of eggnog just short of filling it up. I spied some coke in the fridge, and thinking that coke definitely goes with spiced rum, I added it into the mix. I must say, it was very tasty. It also helped with thinning out how thick the eggnog can make a drink.

I had one can of Coke with a half glass of egg nog chaser...It was barely 20 minutes later, I started feeling a slight ache in the pit of my breast bone.

I walked it off thinking it was just gas, but then it got steadily worse and within 3 hours later, I had the WORST tummy ache in the bowels of my stomach. I tried whatever I had in the medicine cabinet available to me. milk, oatmeal, baby aspirin...none of those helped the pain which I suffered through ALL NIGHT! By morning, I figured I was well enough to drive to work, even though I was still in pain and very tired. The pain has now graduated to hurtin on my left shoulder when I inhale. This demon concoction was like getting hit by a ship while you are trying to swim ashore

My
uncle made me "Eggnog Floats as a child in the 60s and its a seasonal favorite of mine for years. If you do it with more eggnog than coke it gets lost, but 50/50 or less eggnog to coke ratio is very yummy. I know many people that do it. Wish it was more popular!

Just arriving here on Christmas Eve after a very happy accident. I had a dark colored insulated tumbler of coke with ice next to my daughter's same dark tumbler of eggnog. She'd almost finished but there was just about an inch or so left in the bottom of the cup. Without thinking I refreshed the tumbler by me with ice and poured another coke. As soon as I had my first taste I realized what had happened... but it was delicious! Like an old fashioned egg cream soda or root beer float. I am a true fan now. Granted, the concoction was mostly coke but the eggnog added this wonderful additional sweetness, creaminess, and body that is fabulous. As some have said above - I have a new holiday drink.:-) I'm sure it would be lovely with bourbon, too. Now I am thinking of Laverne & Shirley and the milk and cokes they used to talk about. It always grossed me out as a kid, but now I get it! <3

Need to add a strong spiced rum like kraken and it becomes a Xmas paralizer delicio!

I have discovered Cokenogg thanks to this thread. Always had both on me every holiday but this was the first time I tried it!
Consider adding different coke flavors, such as Cherry, Vanilla, Cherry-Vanilla, Orange-Vanilla, or any other flavor you would like. Dr.Pepnogg is also an acceptable alternative, as is Pepsinogg.
